The court sentenced a businessman named Aseed Ali to life imprisonment in the case of murder of farmer Nurul Islam in Bogura. At the same time, the court imposed a fine of Tk 20 thousand.
Additional District and Sessions Judge of Bogura Habiba Mondal announced this verdict at 11:30 on Monday.
Convicted Aseed Ali is the son of Muslim Uddin Molla of Shildahbari village under Gabtali upazila of the district. In addition, two other accused were acquitted in this verdict.
According to the source of the case, on March 10, 2006, farmer Nurul Islam was building a loft of gourd trees in the boundary of his house in Shildahbari village of Gabtali upazila of Bogura. At that time, the neighbor Aseed Ali claimed the place as his own and beat up Nurul Islam.
He died at 3 am when he was admitted to Mohammad Ali Hospital in Bogura. Later, Momena Khatun, the wife of the deceased filed a case at Gabtali police station accusing the three persons. After taking the testimony of 13 people after 16 years, the court on Monday sentenced accused Aseed Ali to life imprisonment and acquitted the other two accused.
APP Nashimul Karim Holi said that the court sentenced Aseed Ali to life imprisonment for murdering farmer Nurul. Besides, the court acquitted two other accused, Imu Begum and Anwara Bewa. The family of farmer Nurul Islam expressed satisfaction with this verdict.
