Officials sat at Shaheed Minar demanding justice after coming to give flowers

A scuffle and brawl took place between two sides of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) officials over flowers at Shaheed Minar in the campus. The incident took place between the University Officers Association and the Direct Recruited Officers Association around 8 am on Wednesday. In this incident an investigation committee formed.

The direct recruited officersassociation has filed a written complaint against the officersassociation to the registrar of the university seeking an investigation into the incident.

According to the campus sources, after the morning ferry on Wednesday morning, vice-Chancellor, pro vice-chancellor, treasurer and register finished giving flowers on behalf of the university administration. Then one by one various departments, social and cultural organisations gave flowers.

Finally, Past Direct Recruited Officers Association, an organisation of university officers, came to give flowers. At that time, the officials parishad leaders obstructed Direct Recruited Officers Association from giving flowers.

At one point, a cause trouble broke out between the two sides. After a long period of trouble, arguing and pushing, the university proctor tried to calm the situation. After some time, the officials of Direct Recruited Officers Association sat down in Shaheed Minar square demanding justice for this incident.

Chairman of the department of history on behalf of the university administration. Md. Habibullah, proctor Dr. Kamal Hossain, assistant proctor Dr. Masud Rana, director of student advisory officeNazmul Hossain went to the spot and assured a fair trial of this incident, they offered flowers at Shaheed Minar.

The Direct Recruited Officers Association claims that when they went to offer flowers at the Shaheed Minar, the officers prevented them from climbing the Shaheed Minar. At one point, members of the officers’ parishad tore down their flower-strewn banners and raised their hands on a two female officials.

Denying the allegation, the officers’ parishad claimed that no woman officer was molested, but the `direct recruited officers association was prevented from giving flowers to maintain order among the officers in the university.

In this regard, an investigation committee of 5 members has been formed by inviting Dr Khaled Iqbal Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of the University.The committee has been asked to report at the earliest.
