Nor ‘wester damaged houses, crops, uprooted trees in Kurigram

Nor ’wester damaged more than one hundred houses, standing crops field, uprooted a good number of trees at Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram at around 4am on Wednesday (May 18). No one was injured.

Local sources said nor ’wester started at around 4.00 am on Wednesday and swept over five unions like Bhurungamari sadar, Paikerchara, Char Bhurungamari,Silkhuri and Bongosonahat. Suddenly it begins to rain including storm with strong velocity of wind and lightning. Several electric polls were uprooted disconnecting supply of electricity increased immense suffer of common people.

Member of Paikerchara word no-1 Bazlur Rahman said more than 30 houses of our area damaged. Two rooms of my house were also damaged.

Chairman of Paikechara union council Abdur Razzak ensured the incident and told that more than 100 houses of my union were damaged and a good number of houses and electric polls were uprooted. Electric lines remain disconnected. The electricity officials are also repairing the line.

Bhurungamari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Dipok Kumar Debsharma along with other officers visited on the spot.
