A workshop on Cluster Development Plan (CDP), Capital Investment Plan (CIP), Pourashava Development Plan (PDP), and Climate Resilient Action Plan (CRAP) was held at Chapainawabganj Municipality. The workshop took place on Sunday (April 19) morning at the municipal auditorium under the Resilient Urban and Territorial Development Project (RUTDP), implemented by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) with support from the World Bank. The session was chaired by Ujjal Kumar Ghosh, Administrator of Chapainawabganj Municipality. Among others present was Sajeda Begum, Gender Specialist of RUTDP, LGED, along with other concerned officials. Speakers said the main objectives of the project are to boost economic growth by strengthening connectivity between municipalities in the northwestern and southeastern regions of the country, enhance economic linkages between rural and urban areas and develop climate-resilient urban management systems. It was informed at the workshop that, in the first phase, the project will be implemented in 81 municipalities and 6 city corporations across 36 districts of the country. Around 21 million people are expected to benefit, half of whom are women. Under the project, modern urban facilities will be expanded, including development of roads and footpaths, installation of street lighting, construction of drainage systems, public toilets, markets and bus terminals, dumping stations, supermarkets, bridges and culverts, as well as municipal buildings. It was also highlighted that the project will be implemented with consideration of social and environmental aspects, ensuring women’s participation. Members of the Town Level Coordination Committee (TLCC), technical experts, and consultants of the project participated in the workshop. Among the experts present were urban planner Md. Saifur Rahman, social management specialists M. T. S. Mehmud and Md. Hasibul Haque and environmental specialist Arumita Prasad.
