He died at the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZRMC) Hospital in Bogura in the early hours of Friday (April 16). The deceased was identified as Mostafizur Rahman, son of Lokman Hossain Mondol of Maguratair village under Khamarkandi union of the upazila.

According to the relatives and locals of the deceased, two candidates Majedur Rahman Milon and current member Enamul Haque Rana for the post of member of ward number six in the upcoming Khamarkandi Union Parishad election at a tea stall in Maguratair village of Khamarkandi union of the upazila on April 3 morning.  It even turned into a fight between the two sides.

Then on April 6, he was admitted to the drug addiction treatment center in Bogura.  Meanwhile, the school teacher was shifted to SZRMC  Hospital in Bogura  on Friday (April 16) after falling ill during the day and night.  He died at dawn while undergoing treatment there.  The body of the deceased was brought from SZRMC  Hospital to Maguraid village . They also complained that the autopsy of the deceased’s body was not done.

Meanwhile, several people, who did not want to be named, complained that the people in favor of the Rana member were quite influential in the area.  No one dares to open their mouth for fear of them.  So no one protests even if they do injustice.  Due to which the family of the victim is not daring to take legal recourse in the event of beating and death of the school teacher in public during the day. They even claimed that they had not lodged any written complaint with the police.

Asked about this, Jasmin Akhter, wife of the deceased, said, “My husband was beaten in the run-up to the upcoming elections.”  She has been undergoing treatment at the hospital since then.  He was also suffering from various complex diseases.  At one stage he died at the hospital.  So I have no complaints.  I don’t want his body to be cut again after her husband’s death.  She cried loudly after saying these things.

Meanwhile, when Shahidul Islam and his son Abu Raihan were contacted on their mobile phones to know their views on the incident, they cut off the phone connection. Sherpur Police Station OC Shahidul Islam said the school teacher was admitted to a drug rehabilitation center a week ago.  After that he fell ill and was taken to SZRMC Hospital in Bogura.  There was a certificate that he had died of a heart attack.  I also talked to the family of the deceased.  But they have no complaints.  He commented that we have nothing to do in this case.
