Martyred Intellectuals and Sherpur Invader Free Day were celebrated with due dignity under Sherpur upazila of Bogura district.
Various socio-cultural organizations including Upazila administration, Upazila Awami League, Sherpur Press Club have held various programs around the day.On this occasion, a discussion meeting was organized at the Sherpur Press Club office at the local bus stand of the town on Wednesday (December 14) afternoon.
Sherpur Press Club President Nimai Ghosh presided over the fuction. Freedom fighter Alhaj¦ Habibar Rahman, member of the National Parliament of the ruling party, spoke as the chief guest at the meeting on the occasion.
Upazila Executive Officer Sanjida Sultana, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sherpur Police Station Ataur Rahman Khondkar, Alhaj¦ Munsi Saiful Bari Dablu,editor of weekly Ajker Sherpur newspaper, Akram Hossain, editor of Vijaybangla, former vice-president of Upazila Awami League Abu Taleb Akand, municipal councilor spoke as special guests in the meeting. Soumendra Nath Tagore Shyam, Sharmin Akhter. Besides, journalist Ayub Ali, Shahidul Islam Shawon, Tapas Basak spoke on the occasion. Sherpur Press Club General Secretary Abdul Mannan directed the programme. Government officials, freedom fighters, leaders and activists of various political parties, journalists and people from various professions participated in these programs.
Meanwhile, at the beginning of the program, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of martyrs on Martyred Intellectuals Day.
Besides, on 14th December 1971 this Sherpur Upazila was liberated from the invaders.The armed freedom fighters attacked from three sides and expelled the Pakistani invaders and their henchmen from this upazila and freed this upazila from the invaders.
