Journalist seriously injured in attack by fake milk makers, case filed, no arrests

A journalist was thrashed and his leg broken as publishing fake milk news in Bhangura upazila of Pabna. However, even though a case has been registered, the police have yet to arrest anyone.

Confirming the case on Wednesday afternoon, Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Bhangura police station, said that Ismail Hossain, father of the injured journalist, filed a case with Bhangura police station on Tuesday night.

The accused are – Md. Rajib Hossain, Biojid, Mahatab, Abul Bashar, Abu Taleb,Babu along with 2-3 others unidentified.

Earlier on Tuesday, an attack on Manik Hossain who is the Bhanguraupazila correspondent of Daily KholaKagaz and joint general secretary of Bhangurapress club took place at Poobil village of the upazila.

According to the documents of the case, Rajeev Ahmed, a milk trader of Chak Lakshikol village under Dilpashar union and Abul Bashar of Kaidanga village in the Bhangura upazila have been making and marketing fake milk for a long time.

A few days ago, some journalists including Manik Hossain recorded a video of making fake milk. When these videos were shown to the upazila administration and police administration, the upazila nirbahiofficer requested the administration to take strict action against them.

Later, the related news was published in various media. Enraged by this, ten twelve mercenary terrorists, including Bayezid, Rajib and Mahatab, led by Rajib Ahmed and Abul Bashar found Manik alone on Poobil road and beat him and broke his leg. They took away his motorcycle and mobile phone.

Locals rescued him and took him to upazila health complex, later he was transferred to Pabna General Hospital.

Injured journalist Manik, who is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said that since the publication of the news, fake milk traders had been coming to his house and threatening him for a few days. My motorcycle and mobile were taken away. I am concerned about my family’s safety.

Upazila Health Complex doctor Ikramun Nahar Shelley said, X-ray shows that Manik’s leg bones are displaced. So, he was sent to Pabna General Hospital.
