Jatka Conservation Week-2021 begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, APR 04-Jatka Conservation Week-2021 began in the vdistrict today with a call to ensure the sustainable production of national fish Hilsha.

This year’s theme of the week is ‘(MujibBorsheShapath Nebo, JatkanoyIlishKhabo’.

To mark the week, district Fisheries Office and Shaghata, Fulchhari, Sadar and Sundarganjupazila fisheries offices chalked out the elaborate programmes till March 10.

The programmes include pasting posters, publicity activity through loud speakers among the fishermen who reside on the bank of the river Jamuna (Brahmaputra)of the upazilas in the district, counselling, holding discussion meeting to the fishermen and conducting mobile courts in the river areas of theupazilas.

District fisheries officer Abdud Dayan told the daily Asia  they had underscored the need for conservation of Jatka through motivating the fishermen living on the bank of the river Jamuna here to get matured Hilsha in near future and attain the cherished goal of the week.

Motivation meeting to protect Jatka would be held at the schools located on the bank of the river Jamuna here during the period, he also said.

Apart from it, necessary measures had been taken to display documentary film on the importance of jatka conservation, essay writing competition to the students, and arrange awareness meeting to the fishermen, he added.

Talking to the correspondent Deputy commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin said that Hilsha fish had been playing remarkable role in our national culture, employment generation, poverty alleviation, foreign exchange earnings, and fulfilling the protein demand of the people since long.

The DC also urged all individuals and organizations concerned to come forward with positive attitude to preserve the jatka anyhow to help boost production of Hilsha in the rivers of the district

The DC also instructed the UNOs of four upazilas of the district to make the week a grand success in the upazilasof the district and greeted all concerned to observe the Jatka Conservation Week properly.

Saddam Hossain Paban, a social worker of Kamarjani Bandar area under Sadarupazila said the fishermen residing on the right bank of the river of Kamarjani union catch huge amount of Hilsha fishes from the river with nets all the year round.

He also gave his commitment to assist the officials concerned to observe the Jatka Conservation Week properly in the union.
