International Rural Women’s Day-2023 was observed at hard to reach Fulchhari char under Fulchhariupazila in the district today with a call to evaluate women’s unrecognized domestic works in achieving SDG.
This years’ theme of the day was Rural Women in Climate Resilient Agriculture and Food Security”.
Marking the day, in cooperation with ManusherJonno Foundation, SKS Foundation, a leading non government organization of the country, chalked out the elaborate programmes under the project of Community Based Resilience Women’s Empowerment and Action funded by the Embassy of Sweden.
In the morning, a rally was brought out at Fulchhari char of Fulchhariupazila and it paraded the main roads of the union.
The charwomen, different women groups formed by the project chanted slogans holding placards, festoons, banners.
Later, a discussion meeting on the importance of the day was also held at the hall room of Fulchhari Junior High School with Nargis Akhter, member of Climate Action Group, in the chair.
Union Parishad member Abdul Malek, member of school managing committee Abdul Barek, school teacher Rawshan Ali, member of Climate Action Group AmitanBeoya spoke at the function among others while project coordinator Lovely Khatun moderated the function.
The speakers in their speeches said a rural woman spends 16-18 hours a day engaged in household and agricultural work, but her work is not valued.
The challenges faced by women in performing various responsibilities for the family, society and all, need to be taken seriously, they also said.
Though the rural women have the much contribution to produce climate resilient agri crops, achieve food security, their contribution is not valued, they added.
So, They called upon all the concerned to pave the way for women’s empowerment by realizing and recognizing the importance of these works.
Later, prizes were distributed to the winners who participated in the essay writing competition marking the day.
Similar programmeswere also held at Fazlupur char of the upazila at the initiative of the organization.
A large number of people from all walks of life participated in the programmes.
