International Rural Women Day observed in Gaibandha

The International Rural Women Day was observed in the district today as elsewhere in the country and the globe with a call to bring the rural women under mainstream of development through empowerment.

This year’s theme of the day is “Build a dignified life for Rural women,  Address the Effects of Climate Change”, If it is translated in Bangla it means – GrameenNarirMorjadapurnazibon Gori, JolbayuporibortanerProbhabMokabela Kori.

Marking the day, SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non-government organization, chalked out the programmes.

In the morning around 10 AM, a post rally discussion meeting was held at Fazlupur Union Parishad located at hard to reach char and remote area under Fulchhariupazila in the district under Community based Resilience Women’s Empowerment Action (CREA) project funded by ManusherJonno Foundation.

Presided over by chairman of the union parishad Md. Ansar Ali and moderated by projected manager Sultana Bahar the function was also addressed among others by project coordinator LoveliKhatun,

coordinator on gender child protection and safe guarding of SKS Foundation UmmeKulsum Ela, joyeeta winner Bithi Begum, and member of Climate Action Group Moushumi Akhter.

The speakers in their speeches presented a number of demands to ensure the dignity of the rural women.

Expressing the deep sorrows and concern , the speakers said village woman works 16-18 hours in a day, she pass the time with family and agriculture works but she is ignored and not valued in the family and in the society.

In this context, they demanded to address the challenges, which are being faced by the rural women in a bid to ensure the dignity of the rural women.

The role of rural women is much in food production and food security of the country but they are not evaluated  appropriately in the society, so they commented to make the rural women empowered through addressing the challenges.
