International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Girls observed in Fulchhari

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Girls 2024 was  observed in Fulchhariupazila in the district amid much enthusiasm.

This year’s theme of the day “Protect women and girls, Build a violence free World”

Marking the day, SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non-government development organization chalked out the elaborate programmesthat included bi-cycle competition, debate competition, and telling life story under Community Based Resilience, Women’s Empowerment and Action (CREA) Project funded by ManusherJonno Foundation.

Apart from it, a discussion meeting on the significance of the day was also held at Tikkar  Bazaar under Fazlupur union of the upazila with Hamida Begum, chairperson of Naridal, in the chair.

Moderated by project coordinator Lovely khatun, the discussion meeting was also addressed among others by Joyeeta winner Bithi Begum, member Morzina Begum, RowshanAra Begum, Shukjaan Begum and Morsheda Begum.

Joyeeta winner Bithi Begum said that she became Joyeetawinner easily ,for this she had to accept a lot of hardship and sacrifice.

First, she changed her life through struggle, and then she started  working to improve the quality of life of women and girls in the society. Now all in the areas know her and everybody   respects her, she added.

. Wherever a woman or girl is a victim of violence, she along with her party members go to her  and try to find a solution. She also takes  take help from the administration if necessary. That is why she  becameJoyitaJoyeeta winner  in FulchhariUpazila in 2015, she concluded.

In the meeting, the speakers in their speeches highlighted various public awareness messages, including preventing violence in all areas, including the family, society, and educational institutions, increasing investment in protecting sexual and reproductive health rights, and called for building a prosperous nation.

A large number of girls and adolescents of different chars participated in the programmes bearing festoons, banners, placards inscribed with various slogans regarding the day.

Project coordinator Lovely Begum said the 16-daylong  activity has started today ( November 25) and it would continue till December 10.
