Idol vandalized at Kali Mandir in Sherpur

Unidentified miscreants have smashed the idol of Goddess Kali at an ancient Kali temple under Sherpur upazila of Bogura district. The incident took place at around 2am on Monday (9 August) at a temple on the bank of Karatoa river in South Indian village of Garidaha union in the upazila.
The miscreants left half of the broken idol of Goddess Kali in front of the door of the house of Ripon Kumar Das (30) next to the temple and left the other part inside the temple. Police and Sherpur upazila administration visited the spot on Tuesday.
 Ripon Kumar said, after 2 o’clock at the night, I left the house to respond to the call of nature and I opened the door.I saw the Kali idol lying and screamed in fear.  At this time the people around came up.
 Many people including Gosai Chandra Das and Anil Chandra Das of that village said, we had been worshiping Kali here since the British period. At around 2 at the night, the miscreants vandalized the idol of Kali Mandir.They do not know why the miscreants broke the Kali idol.Such an incident has not happened in this village before.they added.
Dabir Uddin, Chairman of Garidaha Union, said, “I have visited the spot.” Appropriate action will be taken against the culprits.
Officer in Charge of Sherpur Police  Station,Shahidul Islam said, “We have visited the spot after receiving the news.”  Action will be  taken after investigating the matter.
