Health and Family Welfare Center introduced at Kapasia Union in Sundarganj

Health and Family Welfare Center has been introduced at Kapasia Union located at hard to reach Char and remote area that is surrounded byTeesta and Brahmaputra Rivers under Sundargaganjupazila in the district on Thursday.

The health related quality services and other logistic support for the pregnant mothers and newborn babies would be ensured  from  the center in a bid to reduce maternal and newborn death side by side with providing family planning services under a project namely MAMOTA (Expansion of Maternal Newborn Health- Family Planning Services in Rural Bangladesh) funded by KOICA( Korea International Cooperation Agency.

SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non-government development organization, is implementing the project at Bamondanga, Sonaroy, Tarapur and Kapasia unions of the upazila in technical support of Save the Children Bangladesh.

Director, Family Planning, Rangpur division, Morshed Kamal formally inaugurated the center at the union on Thursday morning as the chief guest  and deputy director of family planning department here Md. MojammelHaque, assistant director(family planning) Mahbub Hasan Bhuiyan and assistant director (CC)Dr. Maruf  Akhter spoke at the event as the special guests while local Union Parishad chairman Md. Manju Miah presided over the inaugural function.

Moderated by project officer Farjana Sultana, the function was also addressed among others by senior manager of Save the children Bangladesh-MAMOTA Project Khalda Habib, technical manager Dr. ArminaKhatun, deputy director of SKS Foundation KhandokarJahidSarwar, coordinator of the project Altaf Hossain, senior officer Md. Rafique Hossain.

UP Chairman Manju Miah said no pregnant mothers would go to Gaibandha and Sundarganj towns for treatment purpose any more because they would get their treatment facilities from the center that was opened for them today.

A large number of mothers, their family members including mother in laws, local elite, NGO activists, public representatives attended the function.
