The day’s programs were auspiciously started by the firing of cannon at the first hour of victory. Later, the people of different professions of the upazila remembered the martyrs of the great liberation war of 1971 with humble respect.
Various social and cultural organizations including the upazila administration, police department, Mukti Jodha Sangsad, Awami League and its organizations, BNP, Jatiya Party, Communist Party, Sherpur Press Club, business associations paid tribute to the sun children of the nation at the Upazila Parishad Central Shaheed Minar and Municipal Central Shaheed Minar.
At eight in the morning, the Victory Day parade was organized at Sherpur DJ High School playground.Upazila Executive Officer Mst Sanjida Sultana and Sherpur Police Station OC Ataur Rahman Khondkar formally hoisted the national flag and accepted the salute.
Later, the teachers and students of different educational institutions performed physical exercises. After that the freedom fighters were felicitated.In the afternoon discussion meeting and interesting cultural programs were performed.Freedom fighter Habibar Rahman, Member of National Parliament of Sherpur-Dhunot Constituency, spoke as the chief guest at the event.Among others, Additional Superintendent of Police Sajib Shahriar, Upazila Vice Chairman Shahjamal Siraji, Upazila Awami League President Adv Gholam Farooq, Vice-President Munsi Saiful Bari and General Secretary Sultan Mahmud spoke on the occasion.
