The bagging Ginger farming has been getting popularity in Bogura district as it becomes the profit-making farming to the farmers of 12 upazilas of the district.
The Ginger cultivation in the bags has been found in every house and its homestead of Shibgonjupazila in the district. Besides, Ginger farming, Cardamom, Clove, White Pepper, Bay Leaf, Dried Plum, Allspice are also seen in farming in the begs in every farmer’s house and homestead.
Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Bogura Motlubur Rahman told the Correspondent that the Ginger farming in the bags has been becoming popular more and more in the current years becomes of its extreme profit-making item for the farmers.
DAE of Shibgonj upazila Rashedul Islam said that high profit, land friendly farming item and available saplings for Ginger farming in the bags have increased the in the upazila recently.
Saplings of Cardamom, Clove, White Pepper, Bay Leaf, Dried Plum, Allspice were supplied to the farmers to cultivate them in the unused lands land beside their home stead, added he.
The Ginger farming in the bags has been started at Majgram village of Mokamtola area in the upazila few years back. The success in farming Ginger inspired the others farmers of the upazila hugely. Another Ginger cultivator Wadood Ali of the same area said that they need a separate marketing area for Ginger.
DAE official said that at least 30,000 bags have been used in Ginger cultivation in every union of the upazila targeting 1000 bags of Ginger production in each union and 1 to 1.5 KG Ginger will be produced from each bag spending 35 to 40 take and they have been expecting 30 tons of Ginger from the cultivation this year.
The farmers have been cultivating BARI Ginger-02 by using organic fertilizer, Potash, Insecticide in the Ginger farming of the upazila, added the DAE official.
Ginger cultivator Azizul Haque said that earlier, they could not cultivate Ginger in their lands as the water logging hampers the cultivation but its has been easy to cultivate Ginger in the bags around their home stead and even, they can cultvate Ginger in the roof-top of the house having no risk of water logging destruction.
Contacted, Motlubur Rahman Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) of Bogura said that the root-level officials of DAE have been tryiong their best to convice the farmers to cultivate profitable Ginger more and more in the district.
