Flood situation unchanged in Kurigram

Although River water is decreasing slowly but the overall flood situation remained unchanged in Kurigram district. The flood victims have been stranded for the last ten days causing the plight of those victims know no bound.

Disaster Management section of district administration sources said more than 1.50 lakhs people around 37100 families of 55 unions and a municipality area are marooned. Some 281 primary schools and 121 secondary schools are submerged causing the education activities have been suspended.

.The plight of the flood victims know no bound as scarcity of pure drinking water and dry food are prevailing there. All the rural roads went under water. Communication and sanitation system collapsed. They have to go from one place to another by boat or banana tree made raft. The flood victims took shelter on main road side holding makeshift with their cattle where the environment have also been created pollution.Fodder crisis is also acute there.

Hamidul 35 of village Mosalerchar under Begumganj union of Ulipurupazila told that flood water is receding slowly but we are suffering for cooking and pure drinking water as most of the tube well are inundated here. Another Farul said flood water entered in every houses here. Some are passing days cooking on boat and some in cow shed.

The River side people of Holokhana,Jatrapur,Ghogadaha union of KurigramSadarupazila and the people of low lying at Bhurungamari, Nageswari ,Phulbari, Rajarhat, Sadar, Ulipur, Chilmari, Roumari and Char Rajibpurupazia are the worst sufferers.

Kurigram District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer(DRRO) Abdul Hye told that some 542 metric tons rice, taka 32 lakh 85 thousand in cash 23120 packets of dry food 596650 water purifying tablets have been distributed among the flood victims till now.

No Non-government organization (NGO) officials are found to distribute any relief to flood affected areas.

However, chairman of KurigramZilaParishad along with CEO Mr. Ferujul Islam, Assistant EngineerMizanur Rahman ,office staff and political activists have distributed relief materials more than 600 flood victims in Bhogdanga college ground and char areas of Ghogadaha union un KurigramSadarupazila at noon on Wednesday(July 120).
