District police celebrate eligibility for graduating to a developing country from the status of the LDCs, historic March 7 in Gaibandha

District police celebrated the country’s historical achievement of getting eligibility for graduating to a developing country from the status of the Least Developed Countries (LDCs)yesterday side by side with celebrating the historical March 7 in a befitting manner.

Marking the celebrations, the Gobindaganj Thana police led by officer incharge (OC) AKM Mehedi Hasan place floral wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation and architect of independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

In the afternoon, a function organized by the thana was also held on the thana premises.

Local lawmaker Engineer Monower Hossain Chowdhury addressed the function as the chief guest.

Presided over by OC AKM Mehedi Hasan, the function was also addressed among others by additional police super (Headquarters) Abu Khayer, Gobindaganjupazila chairman Abdul Latif Prodhan, former mayor of Gobindaganj Municipality Atur Rahman Sarker,vice chairman of upazilaparishadsHariful Islam Tazu, senior vice president of upazilaAwami league AtaurRahamanBabluProdhan, Freedom fighter QuaziShakhawat Hossain, Acting principal of GobindaganjGovt.Degree College Bashir Ahmed and principal of Gobindaganj Women’s Degree College Md. Ahsan Habib Prince.

The speakers in their speeches said the historic March 7, 1971 speech of Father of the Nation was the actual declaration of the country’s independence as it contained the directives on taking preparation for the Liberation War.

ENGINEER Monower Hossain Chowdhury, MP, in his speeches said that Bangabandhu knew that a guerrilla war would take place and for that he asked the countrymen to be ready with whatever they had to face the enemies.

The local lawmaker said that the Father of the Nation in his March 7 speech had instructed the Bangalees to take preparation for the guerilla war as the Pakistanis were taking preparation to carry out an attack on them.

Bangladesh’s graduation to a developing state from the status of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) is a great achievement on the birthday of Bangabandhu, He added.

The ruling party’s lawmaker sought cooperation of all to turn the country into a Sonar Bangla as dreamt of Bangabandhu.

OC AKM Mehedi Hasan in hic concluding speeches said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect of independent Bangladesh, had two dreams- to turn Bangladesh into a developing country and to achieve the economic emancipation of the people.

The first dream of Bangabandhu, who was assassinated in 1975 four years after the country’s independence, has been materialized under the leadership of his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he added.

The OC said the government-led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also been working relentlessly to materialize the second dream of Bangabandhu to achieve the economic freedom of the country’s people.

Later, a colorful cultural programme was also held to entertain the participants.

A large number of people from all walks of life including political leaders, workers, and town elite participated in the programmes spontaneously.

Similar programmes were also held on the premises of other six thana headquarters of the district marking the celebrations, office sources said.
