Disastrous people get benefits from SAFE project in Sundarganj: Speakers

Speakers in a function here unequivocally said the people of disaster prone areas of the upazila got different benefits from SAFE (Scaling up Anticipatory Action for Flood Prone Areas in Bangladesh) project during the flood.

“Under the project, various types of services had been ensured to the flood victims of the upazila. Communication system in the flood affected areas had also been okayed in flood affected areas of the upazila through building bridges and Sakos made of wood during the emergency”, they also said.

They made the comments while they were addressing a concluding ceremony of the project at the hallroom of the upazilaparishadon Tuesday afternoon with UNO Tariqul Islam in the chair. SKS Foundation, a Gaibandha base non-government organization, arranged the function on the occasion of project phase out in the upazila.

In the function, project officer Ranjit Kumar Paul described the objectives and goals of the project and said SKS Foundation  implemented the project in the upazila with the financial support of Save the Children, International.

The project started on February 01 in 2023 and it would end on January 24 in 2024, he also said. The project officials and employees tried their level best to make the project in the upazila successful, he added.

He also expressed his gratefulness to the UNO and union parishadchairmen for providing help and assistance to run the project here smoothly. Md. Tanzimul Islam, SAFE project focal and project officer also addressed the function and described the roles of Save the children, int.

UNO Tariqul Islam in his concluding speeches thanked the staff of the project and its authority for implementing the project in the upazila as it played significant role to reduce the loss of life and properties.

If the tenure of the project had extended morehere , the people of disaster prone areas would have benefitted from the project, he mentioned.

Almost all members of upazila disaster management committee, upazila level officials, invited persons and journalists attended the function.
