The miscreants set fire to the Radha Govinda temple and vandalized the Saraswati idol in Bogra’s Dhunat upazila. The incident took place at Tengrakhali village of Choukibari union of the upazila around 3pm on Monday.
According to police sources, there is a statue of Saraswati in the Radha Govinda temple on the bank of Tengrakhali government water body in the upazila. People of the local Hindu community perform puja there. There is no night watchman in that temple. On this occasion, who or what vandalized the idol of Saraswati after setting fire to the Radha Govinda temple on Monday night.
Upon receiving the news, Bogra Superintendent of Police (SP) Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan, Additional Superintendent of Police Gaziur Rahman, Dhunat Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sanjay Kumar Mahanta and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station Kripa Sindhu Bala visited the spot. At that time, the Saraswati idol was dumped in the Tengrakhali water body from the Radha Govinda temple on the instructions of the administration.
Khoka Chandra Hawaldar, president of the management committee of the Tengrakhali Radha Govinda temple, said who set fire to the temple and vandalized the idol at night. However, it is believed that the incident took place due to a dispute over the lease of Tengrakhali reservoir. Preparations are underway to file a case at the police station.
Bogra Superintendent of Police (SP) Ali Ashraf Bhuiyan said the spot was visited after receiving the news. Investigations are underway to identify those involved in the incident.
