Couple sentenced to life imprisonment in Chapainawabganj murder case

The court sentenced the couple to life imprisonment in a murder case in Chapainawabganj. In addition to imprisonment, the convicts were fined 10,000 tk and sentenced to 6 months without labor. Additional District and Sessions Judge Md. Rabiul Islam gave this judgment on Thursday (January 11) afternoon.

The convicted accused are Khairul Islam (49) son of Israel of Polsha-Mission Bazar of Baliadanga Union of Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila and his wife Lalbanu alias Laili (39). While the accused Khairul was present in the court when the judge announced his verdict, his wife Laili is absconding. However, the court acquitted one Shafiqul Islam as the charges were not proven.

State lawyer APP Md. Rabiul Islam said that due to past enmity, on March 20, 2014, the accused beat up a man named Jasim Uddin in Polsha-Mission Bazar. On the day of the incident, the victim’s father, Amir Ali Master, filed a murder case at Sadar police station accusing 9 people as the plaintiff. The investigating officer of the case, Additional Superintendent of Police Waresh Ali Miah, filed a charge sheet in the court on October 23, 2017, accusing the convicted couple and another person named Shafiqul Islam. He also said that after hearing the testimony of 18 people, the judge sentenced Khairul and his wife Laili to life imprisonment.
