Bogura Jamuna Basin “Khaci” Makers passing busy hours

The Jamuna basin people of Shariakandi uapzila in Bogura have been passing busy hours in making bamboo-made container (locally known as Khaci) ahead of different festivals for Semai, vegetables and fruits business for the traders.

 

Visiting the areas, the Khaci makers of Hindukandi village under Shariakandi municipality and Kuptola of Narci union under the upazila have been seen passing busy hours in making Khaci for Semai, vegetables and fruits trading in the district.

 

The Khaci makers of different ages had been seen in making different sizes of Khaci and some others have been making different materials of Khaci from bamboo like cutting bamboo and other process.

 

Locals said that the makers of Khaci have working hard in making them for meeting-up demand order of the Semai, vegetables and fruits traders and producers of Bogura town and other parts of the country and they have been making Khaci at expert hand and supplying to the traders for long three years and they could draw the attention of the traders for their smooth making of the Khaci.

 

The demand of the Khaci has been increasing before one month early of Ramadan and the villagers becomes busy at the moving and trading of the Khaci ahead of the different festivals, added the locals.

 

Local elderly Khaci maker Abdul Halim of Hindukandi village said that they have been making Khaci as paternal tradition and around 400 Khaci makers of Hindukandi and Kuptola villages of the upazila have been engaged in the trading and they have been making locally known as Chatai, Darja, Ghorer Chad, Dhanrakhar dol, Berry, Hoca, Kula and others through different hardships.

 

They have been getting order of bamboo-made Khaci for preserving Semai , vegetables and fruits traders well in the last few years but the demand has been increasing from in the year after year, added the elderly maker.

 

Another maker of Kuptola village Abdul Waresh said that they are vidualising the better days and they need not to go market despite the Semai, fruits, vegetables traders have paid their demanded khaci’s price early.

 

Some female Khaci makers Shahina, Morjina, Helena at Mohsin Mia house of Kuptola village said that from dawn to dusk, they can make around 20 khaci in every day and they sell to wholesaler buyers earn not much and can maintain family easily.

 

Local Khaci maker Dilip Mondal said that they do not get any help from the government in Khaci making activities but some NGOs have been contributing a little-bit the business in providing loan.
