Body of young girl at Victim Support Center, 5 members of police withdrawn

The body of a young girl named Ruhi Akhter (19) was recovered from the Victim Support Center of Kotwali Police Station in Rangpur. Later, the police handed over the body to the family after conducting an autopsy in the morgue of Rangpur Medical College Hospital under strict secrecy.

Five female constables, including a sub-inspector (SI) on duty at the Victim Support Center, have been recalled for negligence in the incident. A young man named Akash has also been arrested in the incident.

Police say the victim was rescued from the Cigarette Company area of ​​the city and kept at the Victim Support Center. She committed suicide there on Sunday (January 23) morning. Ruhi’s home is in Hariyar Ghat village of Harinakundu police station in Jhenaidah. The arrested Akash lured him to Rangpur and fled.

Rangpur Metropolitan Kotwali Police Station OC Abdur Rashid said Ruhi committed suicide by hanging herself with a ceiling fan at the Victim Support Center on Sunday morning. Ruhi’s father Sekendar Ali filed a case against Akash Miah at the police station on Monday afternoon alleging incitement to suicide.

Citing the preliminary investigation, the OC further said that Akash’s house is in Ram Gobindmor area of ​​Baharkachna in Rangpur. Ruhi fell in love with him on her mobile phone. Akash asked her to come to Rangpur with the promise of marriage. Ruhi came to Rangpur from Jhenaidah last Saturday.

Then get off with several calls on Akash’s mobile phone. But Akash switched off his mobile phone. Seeing Ruhi wandering in Sahebganj area of ​​Rangpur city, the locals called 999. Haragachh police rescued Ruhi and took her to the Victim Support Center of Kotwali Police Station on Saturday night.
