Boat capsized in Dudkumer River, one woman missing in Kurigram

A passenger and goods loaded boat was capsized in the Dudkumar River Nageswariupazila in Kurigram district at noon on Monday (January 16). One woman was missing. The Fire Fighters are being tried to rescue her till writing the report.

Local sources said the incident took place when the boatman was crossing the Dudkumer River from eastern side of Mureaghar to western side loading a total of 25 passengers, 20maunds of paddy, 25maunds of jute,two horse carts including two horses,7 bicycles and other goods. The boatman also loaded more passengers and others goods than its holding capacity to earn more money. When the boat started just after some times the boat was capsized in the river.

Although all the passengers swam ashore but one woman named Nalo Begum 45 was missing. She is the wife of physical disabled Noor Mohammad of village TeleanirKuri under Bamondanga union of Nageswariupazila. She was returning home from her relative’s house.

Being informed Fire Fighters of Nageswariupazila rushed to the spot and started rescue operation with locals. Failing to recover, they informed to Rangpur Fire Fighters.Later Fire Fighters of Rangpur reached to the River bank at 3.30 pm and begun to rescue operation. The missing woman is not traced till writing the report.

Former members of Bamondanga UP Sajumuddy admitted the incident. Chairman of Bamindanga UP AkhtaruzzamanRony told that the rescue operation is going on.

Nageswari Uapazila Nirbahi Officer Farjana Jahan admitted the incident and told this correspondent that I along with Additional District Magistrate (ADM)Mosadder Bin Alihave visited on the spot. The rescue operation is stopped at night. The operation is likely to start tomorrow. The missing woman has not been traced till now.Some assistance have also been given to the victims,she added.
