Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Liaquat Ali Seikh of Sherpur upazila exchanges view with the owners, managers, warehouse keepers and wholesalers of Cold Store in Bogura on Friday in order to keep the market price of potatoes stable.
The meeting was presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Liaquat Ali Seikh whereas Municipal Mayor freedom figher Alhaj Md Abdus Sattar, Vice-Chairman of Upazila Parishad Shah Jamal Siraj, Upazila Agriculture Officer Sharmin Akter, officer-in-Charge of Police (Investigation) Abul Kalam Azad, Upazila Food Controller Sekendar Rabiul Islam, editor of today’s Sherpur newspaper Saiful Bari Dablu, correspondent of Bangladesh Pratidin Al Mamun, owner , manager of four cold stores, wholesale warehouse keeper and potato traders spoke here in the metting.
After reading out the main contents of the two letters sent by the Department of Agriculture Marketing and Deputy Commissioner Bogura, the UNO said that 10,83,640 metric tonnes of potatoes have been produced in Bogura district, which is 9,77,670 metric tonnes more than the demand. So there is no possibility of shortage of potatoes.
At the same time, he requested all concerned to sell potatoes at Tk 23 per kg at the cold store level, Tk 25 at the wholesale level and Tk 30 at the retail level.
The government will be forced to take strict legal action if it disobeys this directive or illegally stockpiles or manipulates or creates artificial crisis or increases prices by spreading rumors.
