Platform of leftist student organizations called rally in Shahbagh to protest rape

The platform of leftist student organizations ‘Bangladesh Against Rape’ has called for a rally in the capital’s Shahbagh to protest the ongoing rape and violence against women in different parts of the country. The program will be held at 3 pm in Shahbag.

The new platform of Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, an organization led by Dakshur vice-president Nurul Haque Noor, ‘Anti-Rape and Oppression Student-People’s Forum’ has also called for an anti-rape rally at the same place at 4 pm.

Both organizations called on people from all walks of life to come forward to make the rally a success.

The Shahbagh turn was also tumultuous on Thursday, the fourth day of ongoing protests against rape. Students have been protesting in front of the National Museum in Shahbag since 11:30 pm.

These mass rallies and demonstrations were held under the banner of ‘Bangladesh against rape and injustice’. Leaders and students of several leftist organizations, including the student union and the Socialist Student Front, took part in the mass rally.

Protesters chanted slogans at the time. In addition to the slogans, the protesters painted the protesters. An anti-rape procession was taken out at 6 pm at the end of the mass rally. It starts from Shahbagh junction, goes around Kantaban, Elephant Road and TSC and ends in front of the National Museum. Besides, an organization called ‘Muktijoddha Oikya Mancha’ has also organized a human chain against rape in Shahbag.

At the foot of the invincible Bengal of Dhaka University on Thursday afternoon, the protesting human chain of the Dhaka University Teachers’ Association demanded speedy trial and exemplary punishment for violence, rape and torture against women.

Incidentally, the country has been blown up by the incident of gang rape of BCL at Sylhet MC College and spreading of video after gang rape of a housewife in Begumganj of Noakhali. Demonstrations are going on across the country to protest these incidents and demand justice for the rapists.
