Bogura Office :
A case has been lodged with the police station for attacking and vandalizing a UNO vehicle during the raid at Balu Mahal in Sherpur of Bogura.
On the night of the incident, the night watchman of the office of the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) was injured in the beating of the mercenaries. Manjurul Haque Bachchu filed the case as a plaintiff.
Another 80-85 unidentified persons have been charged in the case, including 14 named. Later, the police raided and arrested 6 of the accused.
Sherpur Police Inspector (Investigation) SM Abul Kalam Azad confirmed the information and said a case has been registered against them for obstructing government work, assault and vandalism.
An operation is underway to nab the others accused in the case. The arrested persons were also sent to jail through the court on Sunday afternoon, the police official said.
It may be mentioned that market monitoring activities were being carried out under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Liaquat Ali Sekh to stop the rise in prices in different areas of the upazila including Sherua Battala Bazar since noon on Saturday.
At that time there were reports of illegal extraction of sand from Bengali rivers in Baraitali, Nabinagar and Naldangi areas of Khanpur Union. Later raids were carried out there. The sand extraction equipment was being opened illegally as no one was found there.
At that time the hired people of the sand miners got organized and surrounded them. They even got excited and vandalized his car. Ujjal Mohant, office assistant of the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Munjurul Haque, night watchman, who were accompanying him in the operation, were beaten and injured when they tried to stop him. The assailants later fled after additional police arrived at the scene.
