Rafiqul Alam, Dhunat (Bogura):
The customers of Baira Life Insurance have carried out a human chain program demanding the return of the money deposited with the insurance company under Dhunot upazila in Bogura.
The human chain program was held at Mathurapur Union Parishad premises of the upazila around 10 am on Saturday.
Chairman of Mathurapur Union Parishad Harun-ur-Rashid Selim, General Secretary of Mathurapur Union Awami League Golam Mortuza, insurance customers Shahin Sheikh, Ferdous Zaman, Salma Khatun, Ishaq Ali and Majnu Mia spoke on the occasion. It is learned that Rezaul Sarkar of Goalbhag village, a field worker of the company, collected customers from Mathurapur union branch of the upazila in 2007 as savings insurance.
By 2016, he had collected around Tk 15 million from at least 1,000 customers. Customers are in trouble as the insurance money is not refunded even after the expiry of 10 years. Shahin Sheikh, an insurance customer of Goalbhag village, has lodged a complaint against Rezaul Sarkar, an insurance worker.
In this regard, insurance worker Rezaul Sarkar said, the issue of payment of insurance claims to the customers is in process. All customer payments will be made in phases. Even then, some people have carried out human chain programs by inciting customers.
sub-inspector (SI) of Dhunat police Pradeep Kumar Barman said the allegation against the insurance worker was being investigated.
