Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has said that the government of People’s Leader Sheikh Hasina is a people-friendly government. We think of the common man, we think of the grassroots.
We think of hardworking peasants and workers. This region is an agricultural region. That is why we have met the demand of farmers for fertilizer, electricity. There is no gas supply in this area. So we have taken initiative to set up a power plant with agrobase industry in the sugar mill area.
The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of a buffer godown at Dhanipara in Boda upazila of the district along the Panchagarh-Dhaka highway on Thursday noon. He added that the present government has taken steps to modernize the ailing sugar mills.
This will not shut down any sugar mills and will not lay off any workers. Sugar mills have huge resources. We are contacting investors at home and abroad on how we can utilize them and generate more income. There are proposals to replace the sugar mills with power plants and various agro-based mills.
We are testing it. After receiving the instructions of the Prime Minister, we will take the next step. More new industrial factories will be set up here. New jobs will be created there.
