81 years passed, the biggest special School yet to get government salary

About 81 years have passed from September 01, 1939 AD, Bogura Dumb-Deaf School at Colony area in the town is yet to get government salary and the teachers and employees have been passing their days through untold sufferings.

 It is the biggest special school for the special children and it is also only special school in the northern side of the country and out all such schools, the teachers and employees of 7 special schools of the whole country have been getting government salary so far.

The school was established by the then MLA of the area Shuresh Chandra Das in 1939 on 3.73 acre of land for the special children and the building of the school was erected  with the finance of social welfare parishad of the government in 1962.

Now 12 teachers including Headmaster, 14 employees of the school have now been giving the light and care to 224 students including 46 female students of the school. These students are from Nursery class to class eight and out of them, 90 students including 20 female students have been given residential facilities in the school building.

The salary of the teachers, employees and the cost of conducting residential facilities, school dresses, medicine and food for the residential students have been met up from the rent of the shops of the temporary market in the school land.

The school was established for the poor and neglected families so that they could be enlightened and the 4,500 special children of the regions have already been benefitted from the biggest special school and the 14 students of the school have been getting government scholarship from department of social service.

After a hectic trial of the school’s headmaster and 7-member executive committee from 2011 to till now, the school was approved by the ministry of social welfare on some terms and conditions on March 28 of 2013 under Education Policy’ 2009 but later the letter for the salary of the teachers, employees has been dispersed from Social Welfare, Education, Finance, Cabinet division and PM office but they are yet to get government salary and passing hard days of lives.

Md. Ataur Rahman, Headmaster of the special school said that at present, the school has been continuing with the kind attention of the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), DD of Department of Social Service, ruling party leaders including honourable Whip of the parliament Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Shapan, Speech Writer of Prime Minister Nazrul Islam, former DC of Bogura Ashraf Uddin and district leaders.

He is hopeful to get government salary for teachers, employees on the basis of information collected by the Ministry of Social Welfare on January month this year, added the Headmaster.

District Jubo-League President Shuvashish Poddar Liton, Secretary of the 7-member executive committee said that he demanded the salary of the teachers, employees and nationalisation of the special school for special children of the areas.

If they get salary and other facilities, the special children will get better teaching, arts, cultural activities and the children will easily cope with the normal children in the society, added the Secretary of the school.
