Allegations of harassment and death threats have been made against the Chhatra League leaders and activists of Pabna Science and Technology University for non-payment of subscription for the purchase of sports equipment.
The incident took place at the physical education department of the university on Sunday noon. The victim official filed a written complaint with the registrar of the university seeking justice in the evening.
The accused BCL leaders and activists are Md. Rafat bin Islam Sobhan, joint general secretary of BCL of the university unit,Almachur Rahman Ayan, joint general secretary of BCL of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall, organising secretary of BCL, Zahir Raihan, activists Likhan, Tanveer and Shantu. All the accused are the followers of BCL university unit president Faridul Islam Babu.
According to the written complaint, he received a call from a number around 2:15 pm on Sunday, when he was in the treasurer’s office. From there, 15 to 18 boys including Ayan, Shobhan, Likhan, Zaheer, Shanta called him to the physical education department and harassed him and physically assaulted him with death threats. At that time, he was asked to leave his job and threatened to kill him if he did not go.
Aggrieved official Shah Jamal said, 15-20 students came to me in the afternoon and demanded money but I cannot give money to anyone without official procedure. Before this, through one of our teachers, some badminton equipment was bought for them for around Tk 40 thousand. They either ran out, demanded money from me to buy new ones.
I said you make a written application and then I will look into it. But they said to pay now. I said I can’t do it without official procedure. At one point they pushed me off the chair. They physically bribed me and said, ‘I will kill you if you don’t resign and leave Pabna.’ They have done this to us before, I complained but I didn’t get justice.
” In this regard, Faridul Islam Babu, president of the PUST BCL, said, “For a few days, the officer was supposed to give feathers to them, but he is giving them today, saying he will give them tomorrow.” Today he had an argument with the students in his office, that’s all I know.
Among them there may be one or two from BCL. Most of them are ordinary students. Now that he has complained to the university, now the university authorities will look into it.
