US President Donald Trump has congratulated newly elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. President Trump expressed his congratulations in a letter sent from the White House on Wednesday. The matter was confirmed by the BNP media cell. The letter congratulates Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on his historic victory on behalf of the American people and wishes him success as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The letter said that the partnership between the United States and Bangladesh is based on mutual respect and the shared interest in ensuring the prosperity of strong and sovereign nations in a free and open Indo-Pacific region. It expressed hope that the commercial relationship between the two countries will continue to advance under the leadership of the newly elected Prime Minister. The letter also mentioned the hope that farmers and workers of both countries would benefit from the implementation of mutual trade agreements. In addition, it emphasized the importance of ensuring access to high-quality American equipment for the Bangladeshi military by concluding regular defense agreements. The letter concluded with the hope that the US-Bangladesh relationship would be stronger than ever before, and expressed full confidence in the US ambassador to Bangladesh. Earlier, after the election results were announced, the US Embassy in Dhaka and Ambassador Brent T. Christensen congratulated BNP and its Chairman Tarique Rahman for their historic victory in the 13th parliamentary elections. "Congratulations to the people of Bangladesh for holding a successful election. Best wishes to BNP and Tarique Rahman on their historic victory," the embassy said in a statement. The statement said the United States is interested in working with the new government of Bangladesh. Earlier, many world leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated Tarique Rahman. This congratulations from the United States indicates the opening of new horizons in international relations with the new government of Bangladesh.
