Bogura Jail holds nearly three times captive of its capacity till Sunday. The captives are increasing day by day as the arresting process is ongoing. Around 2,100 people were incarcerated in this prison with a capacity of 770 people till.

According to that the prisoners have to stay in piles in the intense heat. Recently, in the context of the quota reform movement, political party leaders and workers are being arrested every day in Bogura as well as in the entire country. After the arrest, they are being sent to Bogura jail through the court. That is why the number of prisoners in Bogura jail is increasing day by day. The prisoners have to pile it up.

According to police sources, 271 people have been arrested and sent to jail through the court in 15 sabotage cases filed so far in Bogura. These accused have been arrested in 17 days from last July 16 to yesterday August 4. Most of those arrested are BNP and Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists.

Jail Superintendent Anwar Hossain said that arrests are being made every day and prisoners are getting bail from the court. So the situation in the prison is stable. If more prisoners arrive in the future, alternative arrangements will have to be made. The Jail Superintendent said that as per routine, the accused can be transferred to another jail. In this way the pressure can be reduced by sending the accused to another prison.
