Evacuation of hundreds of illegal structures around RNPP

Ishwardi upazila administration has evicted hundreds of illegal structures from Ishwardi-Kushtia highway near Rooppur nuclear power project on Saturday. The operation was conducted by Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Subir Kumar Das.

According to the sources said that hundreds of shops and establishments including grocers, hotels, tea stalls, salons, raw markets have been built illegally in Rooppur Mor area.

Rooppur Nuclear Power Project is one of the most expensive and very important project in the country.These illegal structures have been evicted due to fear of disturbing the security of the project.

Officer-in-Charge of Ishwardi Police Station Rafiqul Islam told New Age that the traffic congestion is caused due to hundreds of illegally built shops in the Rooppur project area of ​​the highway. This creates a disturbance in the work of law and order.Two days ago, the shopkeepers were asked to vacate the shops here.Illegal structures were vacated by Veku on Saturday.

Upazila NirbahiOfficer (UNO) Subir Kumar Das told the daily asia that nuclear power plant is a mega project of the country.Safety is given utmost importance in this project.For a long time, businesses were being conducted by illegally occupying the road and highway department’s land near to the Rooppur project by setting up shops. Despite several notices given by the Roads and Highways Department, the traders did not move their shops.Therefore, this eviction operation was conducted on the orders of the higher authorities of the administration.
