The water of mighty Jamuna River is flowing 38 cm above danger limit under Sariakandi upazila in Bogura on Thursday.
The water level of the River has increased at a great rate due to the continuous rains of the last few days and the water coming down from the upstream, crossing the danger level at 6 am on Thursday. In Shimultair village of Chalwabari Union in the char area of Jamuna and near Bohail Bazar of Bohail Union, more than half a hundred houses have disappeared in the river due to extensive erosion of Jumana River.
According to local water development board sources, the water level of Jamuna river has increased by 60 cm in 24 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday to 6 pm on Thursday. At 6 pm on Thursday, Jamuna river water flowed 38 cm above the danger level. As the water of Jamuna River has crossed the danger level, flood water has entered crop fields, houses, roads and educational institutions.
Upazila project implementation officer Tariful Islam said that 41 thousand 370 people have been affected by flood water entering 75 villages of 10 unions and one municipality in the ongoing flood. Crops of 830 hectares of land have been affected by flood water. Flood water entered 14 educational institutions. The houses of 58 families have been completely damaged and 190 families have been partially damaged in the jamuna river bursting in the last few days.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Tauhidur Rahman said that the control room has been opened to deal with the flood. Rescue boats and other motorized boats, 6 flood shelters and some educational institutions have been kept ready.
The government has been requested more allocation of relief materials for the people of the flood affected areas. Allotments will be distributed as soon as they are received.
