World Environment Day-2024 was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe today with a call to create much awareness among the people about environment pollution.
This year’s theme of the day is ‘Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience’.
Marking the day Gaibandha area program office of World Vision Bangladesh, an ecumenical international Christian Humanitarian aiddevelopment, and advocacy organization chalked out the elaborate programmes.

Besides, a discussion meeting on the importance of the day was also held on the ground of Gidari Bilateral High School under Gidari union of Sadarupazila this noon at the initiative of union Shishu and Jubo Forum formed by the organization.
Local Union Parishad Chairman Harun-ur-Rashid addressed the function as the chief guest and Joseph Mardy, area program Manager (Acting) of World Vision Bangladesh here and head teacher of the school MD. Belachhur Rahman spoke at the event as the special guest while MosammatSahanakhatun, president of union jubo Forum, presided over the ceremony.
Apart from it, students, teachers, public representatives, local elite and invited persons spoke at the function among others.
The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for increasing public awareness and their active involvement to ensure environmental conservation and sustainable management of the environment through the observance of World Environment Day.
A large number of students, teachers, and members of jubo forum participated in the programmes.
