A former regional leader of an extremist party Purba Banglar Communist party (PBCP) was gunned down by unidentified assailants in Maniknagar Bazar intersection underGoeshpurunion in Pabna sadar upazila on Sunday night, police said.

The deceased Abdur Razzaque Sheikh,38, son of late Azizul Sheikh a residence of Harinarayanpur village of the upazila who was the regional leader of the banned extremist party Purba Banglar Communist Party (Lal Pataka).

According to locals said that when around 11.00pm on the night Abdur Razzaq have a tea at a tea shop in Maniknagar Bazar after Taraweeh prayers on Sunday, 5/6 masked youths on two motorcycles drive shot him and ran away.

Locals panicked and took Bloody Razzak to Pabna General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.The police believe that he was killed due to previous enmity.

Pabna additional superintendent of police (ASP) Masud Alam disclosed adding that Abdur Razzaque was the leader of the banned extremist party Purba Banglar Communist Party. He surrendered to home minister Asaduzzaman at Pabna Amin Uddin stadium in 2019. Additional police were deployed there to avert further any incident.

The body was recovered and sent to Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy.However, it is not yet known who killed him, saidthe police officer.
