The 12th death anniversary of eminent industrialist and Square Group founder Samson H Chowdhury was observed on Friday in Pabna. On the occasion of his death anniversary, his family organised a prayer meeting at Esterus Khamarbari in Pabna and a memorial meeting was held at Pabna Press Club. He died on January 5, 2012 at the age of 86
Pabna press club president ABM Fazlur Rahman presided over the memorial meeting organised by Pabna press club at 7.30pm on Friday at Press club auditorium.
Pabna press club joint secretary Sarwar Ullas gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the memorial meeting. At the beginning of the memorial meeting, a minute’s silence was observed to pay respect to the late Samson H Chowdhury.
Among others addressed at the meeting Member of Parliament of Pabna sadar constituency Golam Faruque Khandkar Prince, former president and life member of Pabna press club, director of Square Toilets and Be varies, late Samson H Chowdhury’s son hero freedom fighter Anjan Chowdhury Pintu, Pabna chamber of commerce and industry president Saiful Alam Swapan Chowdhury, senior vice president of Pabna chamber of commerce Md. Ali Maturza Biswas Soni, journalist Rabiul Islam Ravi, Abdul Matin Khan, Pabna Science and Technology University teacher Muhammad Habibullah, Atgharia Upazila chairman Tanvir Islam, journalist Saikat Afroz Asad, Mirza Azad, Shahidur Rahman Shahid, Uppal Mirza.
Square Pharmaceuticals general manager Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Square Toiletries assistant general manager Abdul Hannan and other journalists were present at this time.

Samson H. Chowdhury, who has a colorful life, was born on 25 September 1926 in Aruakandi village of Kashiani police station in Greater Faridpur district. After completing his studies in India, Samson Chowdhury settled permanently in Ataikula of Pabna district in 1952. His father Yakub Hossain Chowdhury was a medical officer in a pharmacy.
It is noted that Samson H Chowdhury was interested in business since childhood. At first, he created a drug manufacturing factory called ‘E-Sons’ in accordance with his father’s name. Later he got into the pharmacy business with capital from his father; Four friends established a drug factory called Square Pharmaceutical Works. After that he gradually built Square Group. 66 years ago, under the leadership of Samson H. Chowdhury, the foundation of the small industrial enterprise was established in Shalgaria area in the Pabna district headquarters. Now, Square is now the leading industrial group in the country.
Samson H Chowdhury was the chairman of this group till the last days of his life. Currently, there are 60,000 employees in Square Pharma, including 30,000 in Square Group. Anita-Samson Foundation in Pabna has made a permanent arrangement to provide free computer training to poor meritorious students. Samson H. Chowdhury has done social service and human service in addition to building industrial establishments. During his lifetime, Samson Chowdhury held numerous important positions and received numerous awards and recognitions for his achievements. People of all walks of life remember him because of his ideals, ethics, sacrifice, magnanimity and multifaceted service activities.
