Bumper yield of T-Aman paddy in this current season makes farmers happy in Bogura district. Meanwhile, the farmers across the district have started harvesting of the cross in a full swing.
“T- Aman farmers in the district have expressed their satisfaction as they are getting both bumper yield along with good market price,” said authority concern
Department of Agriculture Extension office says that the yield of T-Aman rice in the current season is as expected. So far yield of 3.3 MT per hectare has been obtained. As such, the stakeholders are looking at the possibility of exceeding the target of Aman production in Bogura.
Farmer Ershad Hossain of Shyambaria area of Bogura Sadar Upazila said that the cost of paddy production in one bigha including land preparation, seedlings, fertilizer-pesticides, labor cost is a little more than Tk 6 thousand. This time I sold straw of one bigha land from the land for Tk 5 thousand.
He also said expect to get about 15 maunds of paddy. Even if this colored rice is sold at Tk 1100 per mound, the profit will be Tk 16,000 to Tk 17,000.
Farmer Khalilur Rahman said that although there was apprehension about the rain water in the beginning, the yield was good after the amount of rain that fell. Even this time as there is no natural calamity, the paddy is being harvested well. The cost of paddy production has increased, but it seems that there will be a good profit due to the increased price of straw.
Another farmer, Abdul Ghafur, said that there is some concern about the expected rain at the beginning of paddy planting. After that, the rain and weather required for rice cultivation were favorable; resulting in good yield, now the price of rice in the market is going to remain comfortable with good yield.
According to the local bazaar, new Mamun rice is being sold at Tk 1130 to Tk 1140, new Swarna at Tk 1140 to Tk 1170, BR-49 paddy at Tk 1180 to Tk 1200. It is also known that the minimum price of coarse rice is Tk 1050.
According to the sources of Department of Agricultural Extension in the current planting season, paddy is cultivated on 1 lakh 83 thousand 510 hectares of land, which is 35 hectares more than last year. Last year 1 lakh 83 thousand 475 hectares were cultivated.
Last year the rice production target was 5 lakh 51 thousand 813 metric tons, this season the production target is 47 thousand 321 metric tons and the target has been set at 5 lakh 99 thousand 134 metric tons. The yield per hectare was found to be 3.3 MT.
Sub- assistant agriculture officer Faridur Rahman said although there was an apprehension about rainwater in the beginning, the next weather was favorable for Aman farming, as there was no calamity this year, farmers are able to raise paddy at home with ease.
