T-Aman farming inundated, farmers frustrated in Kurigram

A total of 16 Rivers including the Dharla, Teesta, Brahmaputra, Dudkumar,Gangadhar,Zinzeram and Sonavory are flowing through the Kurigram district and water level of those Rivers are swelling again due to onrush of water from upstream and incessant downpour for the last several days causing the River side people are being passed their days in fear of flood.

Kurigram Water Development Board (WDB) sources said River water is increasing but it is flowing below their respective dangers levels.

The low lying areas of Begumganj,Shaheberalga and Hatia under Ulipurupazila,Nayarhat and Austomirchar under Chilmariupazila, Jatrapur, Mogolbacha and Holokhana under sadarupazila, Kaliganj, Noonkhawa, Narayanpur and Ballaverkhas union under Nageswariupazilaand Gharialdanga union under Rajarhatupazilahave been submerged.

Surmanali 43 of village Khetabkham near the Teesta River under Rajarhatupazila said it is raining continuously causing the Teesta River is swelling and the River is also eroding. We are being suffered with cattle, poultry birds and other belongings. It is the sorrow among the people of Teesta River side round the year, he lamented.

Insaf Ali 65 a valiant freedom fighter and a retired head teacher of Nayarhat union told this correspondent that more than 100 house of char are inundated with knee and waist deep water. The char people are in a great trouble with their cattle and poultry birds.

Abdus Salam 66 a farmer of Beparipara under Mogolbacha union in Sadarupazila told that earlier my three bighas of T-Aman field were inundated causing those are damaged. After recession of rain water, I have planted T-Aman of my four bighas of land again which is now under two feet incessant rain water, he is frustrated. Most of the planted T-Aman farming have gone under 2-3 feet rain water, he said.

Kurigram Deputy Commissioner Mohammad SaidulArif said we have prepared with necessary steps including food assistance, rescue boat and flood shelter to face flood situation.
