50 houses eroded by Teesta River in Kurigram in two weeks

The erosion by the gulping River Teesta begins with the recession and increasing of the River water and more than 50 houses including a governmentPrimary school have already been eroded.

More than 150 houses are being threatened. The River erosion hit hapless people are demanding for a permanent solution to protect other houses.

The River hit victims of village Pachchimpara under Bazra union of Ulipurupazila in Kurigramdistrict kept their respective belongings under the open sky as have no lands. The erosion begins here ten days before the Holy EidulAzha which countrywide celebrated recently and then Pachchimpara government Primary School under Bazra union was in threatened. Local Water Development Board tried to protect the Primary School with GEO bags but failed. Some thousands of crop lands with standing vegetable fields,jute fields,trees and ponds including more than 50 houses went into the River bed.

The River side Mafijul Islam 56 of village Pachchimpara told that we have failed to protect the government Primary School.In addition, around 600/700 families are passing their days in fear of River erosion.

Shamser Ali 65 in the same village said my house eroded 12 times earlier. All my lands went into the mighty Teesta River. I have no place at present causing I have compelled to keep my belongings on the road, he lamented.

The villagers said we don’t want relief, we want permanent protection measure of the River erosion.
