A student of Rajshahi University is still undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital with hundreds of bullet ‘pellets’ in his body after clashes between local people and students of Rajshahi University.
His digestive tract was perforated by the pill. The surgery was done for four hours last Sunday. More than 107 pellets were found on his X-ray film. Doctors say that the student’s condition has improved.
The student was injured in a clash at Binodpur gate of the university last Saturday night. After the surgery, he was admitted to the post-operative ICU.
The student’s name is Moshiur Rahman alias Mihad (23). He is a third year student of the University’s Department of Sociology and a resident student of Bangabandhu Hall. His house is in Islampur village of Kurigram. On hearing the news, his brother Ataur Rahman came to Rajshahi.
Sagar, a classmate of the injured Moshiur, said that everyone was going towards Binodpur Gate on the day of the incident. They also went to see what happened there. Moshiur was seriously injured in police firing after 10 pm. He was brought to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital by ambulance. Initially, his wound was not bleeding. He was operated on the next day from 4 pm to 8 pm.
Sagar said, Mosiur’s pulse was shattered by the bullet. It is surgically attached. Since the surgery, he has been kept in the post-operative ICU of the surgery. They are not allowed to enter. But the doctors said that his condition is better than before.
Director of the hospital, Brigadier General FM Shamim Ahmed, said that bullet pellets penetrated the boy’s digestive system like a hole. It is ‘repaired’ by long-term surgery. He was taken out of the operating room and kept in the post-operative ICU. But his condition is improving now.
