On Monday evening, two students of Islamic University (IU) were reported to have been injured in an attack by local miscreants. Shailkupa Thana OC Aminul Islam confirmed that one of the attackers had been arrested after the case in this incident.
According to campus sources, the incident occurred when the students of the ‘Management’ and ‘Finance and Banking’ departments of the 2018-19 academic year were thrown from a moving motorcycle and beaten up at Sheikhpara market adjacent to the university.
The incident apparently began when a local gangster recorded the female friends of some students hanging out at ‘Campus Lake’ of the university. When the students protested and demanded the deletion of the video, an argument broke out, leading to the attack on the two students in Sheikh Para Bazaar.
In response to the incident, university students staged a protest, blocking the Kushtia -Khulna highway for approximately three hours and demanding outsider-free campuses, prosecution of student assaults, and safe campuses. Following the protest, the university administration banned outsiders from entering the campus and increased security measures.
Proctor Prof. Shahadat Hossain Azad, confirmed that the administration had filed a case against the accused and arranged a meeting with local dignitaries regarding the incident.
