A young man named Shafiqul Islam Jani (33) died after being tortured by miscreants in Rajshahi metropolis. Even after 48 hours of the case, the police are arresting the accused.
The plaintiff in the case, Riaz Saeed Biplab, the elder brother of the deceased, complained that the accused were roaming around the area openly, but the Rajpara police station of the city and OC SM Siddiqur Rahman were not arresting them.
On Wednesday (January 11) at 11 o’clock in Chandipur area of the metropolis, about 1000 men and women gathered together and took out a protest march. The procession started from Chandipur area of the metropolis and ended at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They held a human chain program there.
Riaz Saeed Biplab, the plaintiff in the human chain case, said that a case under section 302/34 has been filed at the Rajpara police station of the city last Monday (January 9) in the case of the murder of my younger brother Johnny. Case No-13, Tang-09/01/2023.
The defendants in the case are: Md Taufikur Rahman Babu (52), Md Shaheen (55), Kishore (20) Prasenjit (22) of Kajihata area of Rajpara police station of the metropolis, along with 4/5 people.
But even after 48 hours, Rajpara police are not arresting the accused for unknown reasons. However, all the accused are roaming openly in the area and threatening and pressurizing through various means to withdraw the case. The plaintiff in the case accused the OC of Rajpara police station.
After the evaluation, the plaintiffs and local residents gave a memorial letter to Rajshahi RMP Police Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Md. Abdul Jalil.
It is mentioned in the record that the accused Taufikur Rahman Babu and Md. Shaheen are two brothers. Developers company Mawla Agro is their family business. They own huge wealth. We have come to know that they have managed the police. And that’s why they are still roaming openly in the area, but Rajpara police are not arresting them.
The OC of Rajpara police station SM Siddiqur Rahman himself is trying to divert the matter of murder to a different sector. As a result the accused have become more reckless. They are pressing to withdraw the case through various means. If the case is not filed, the accused are threatening that there will be more such killings. In this situation, the plaintiff and his family members are suffering from insecurity. I fear that my brother will not get a fair trial.
When asked, Rajpara police station officer-in-charge (OC) Md. Siddiqur Rahman said that the police is conducting an operation to arrest the accused in the Johnny murder case. The accused will be arrested and brought under the law as soon as possible.
