More budgetary allocation in education sector stressed

Speakers in a function here yesterday stressed the need for more budgetary allocation in education sector to help build enlightened nation.

“As it was not possible to ensure overall development of the country  without education, the government should allocate minimum 20 percent fund of the total budget and expense it for education ”, they said.

They made the comments while addressing a Consultation on Education Budget at the auditorium of Gaibandha Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the town here on Wednesday.

SinnomulMohilaSamity (SMS) and Campaign for Popular Education jointly organized the function with the financial support of Education OutLoud-ASA Project.

Additional deputy commissioner (ADC)-(Revenue) Robiul Hasan attended the function and addressed it as the chief guest and assistant district primary education officer Robiul Islam, vice principal of SundarganjMohila Degree College Nasrin Sultana, Vice principal of Gaibandha Govt. College Professor Dr. Sabur Uddin and principal of Gaibandha Technical Training College Engineer Abdur Rahim spoke at the event as the special guests.

Moderated by assistant director of SMS ABM MasudunnabiLipon, the function was also addressed among others by Sadarupazila secondary education officer Abu Sayeed, executive director of UddyogZillur Rahman Khondoker, president of ShishuUnnayonSangstha Dr. Shafiul Islam, public relations coordinator of SKS Foundation AshrafulAlom, head teacher RoknuzzamanRaruque and journalist Sarker Mohammad Shahiduzzaman.

No sufficient allocation was kept in research and training purposes for the teachers of the institutions in the last budgets causing the skilled teachers were not produced, the speakers alleged.

In last budget, only 12.1 percent of the total budget had been kept for education sector. As the allocated budget on education is not sufficient In this context, they underscored the need for increasing the funds of education in next budgets for overall development of education sector, they added.

They also demanded of the government to allocate budget for the districts each depending on its demand and necessity to push forward the backward districts towards desired development.

ADC-Revenue Robiul Hasan in his speeches sought cooperation of all to make the education programmes of the government grand success to help build an enlightened nation.

Taking part in the discussion, many other participants put forward a set of problems and it’s solving ways with recommendations to make the country’s education as thrust sector.

About 50 participants coming from different organizations of the took part in the function.
