Members of UDMC (Upazila disaster management committee) urged to play proper role to reduce loss of lives and assets during the flood and its post period through taking need base action plans before floods.
“It is not possible to a single organization to mitigate the sufferings of the flood victims during the flood and its post period. The integrated and concerted efforts of all stakeholders of the society are very crucial to minimize the sorrows and sufferings of the flood victims. Taking this view, the UDMC comprising with various departmental officials and various level individuals was formed so that they could play active role to reduce loss of lives and assets during the natural disaster flood”, they said.
They made the comments while they were addressing a concluding ceremony of a daylong training workshop for the members of the UDMC held at the conference room of SadarUpazilaParishad of the town here on Thursday.
SKS Foundation, a local non-government organization organized the workshop under the project of Scale-up Flood Anticipatory Action for Protecting Lives and Assets in Northern Region in Bangladesh being implemented by SKS Foundation and Save the Children.
Assistant engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Center of Bangladesh Water Development (BWDB) ParthaPratimBarua, country lead of Rimes RaihanulHaque, manager technical specialist of humanitarian sector of Save the Children FatemaMeherunnesa conducted the training sessions as the resource persons while project coordinator AKM Abdul Matin was the moderator and Sadar UNO SharifulAlam presided over the workshop.
All members of the committee participated in the training and gave their commitment to playing proper role in fulfilling the responsibilities assigned to them.
