Four leaders of the Upazila Awami League have been sent to the district Awami League president and secretary for temporary expulsion and permanent expulsion from the party for taking part in the election campaign of a rebel candidate in Bogra’s Dhunat municipality election. The information was revealed in a press release signed by the president and general secretary of the upazila Awami League on Saturday evening.
The leaders recommended for expulsion are Dhunat Upazila Awami League vice-president Asif Iqbal Soni, Shafiqul Islam, joint secretary Mohsin Alam and Upazila Awami League member Imrul Kayes Selim.
According to the press release, Awami League’s nominee for the post of mayor of Dhunat municipality, Professor TIM Nurunnabi Tariq contested with the boat symbol. In this election, the party discipline has been broken as the four leaders took part in the election campaign with the rebel candidate of Awami League AGM Badshah.
Therefore, according to the decision of Bangladesh Awami League Dhunat Upazila branch, four leaders have been temporarily expelled from the party. Awami League’s rebel candidate AGM Badshah (Jag) has been elected mayor in the third phase of Dhunat municipality elections.
Regarding the temporary expulsion, Dhunat Upazila Awami League vice-president Asif Iqbal Soni said, “I have not received any such letter or notice and I have not been contacted by the Awami League in this regard.”
