Fazlul Haque (Fazlu) is a contractor in profession who is bird’s lover. His house is in Palasbari, Kabirajpara  under Kurigram municipality area in Kurigram district. A good number of birds come to his house.

As soon as the morning light spreads, hundreds of different species of birds come out from all around and start chirping in the room yard, on the balcony and on the branches of the nearby trees. The people of the house wake up to the sound of birds. Bird lover Fazlul Haque realizes that his guests are coming. They come to the door of the house. He gives them food. After eating the food, the birds go away on their own every day. However, people around the house do not bother them even if they see birds every day.

Three years ago one morning Bird lover Fazlul Haque had some birds in his house. Being kind to them, he sprinkles bread and chanachu in the room yard for the birds to eat. That day the birds ate them and left, but the next day they come back in his house again in hope of food. In this way, Fazlul Haque keeps feeding them. Over time, the number of birds also increases.

Currently, hundreds of unknown birds including doves, bulbullys, woodpeckers, crows, doyels and others come to his house every morning. They eat and leave. The people of the house do not bother them in any way. The birds roam around like they are in their own forest. They are given various types of food including muri, chanachur, rice, apple and pulses.

The birds like to eat chanachur the most. Tabarak Ali said that every day we see them coming to Fazlu Bhai’s house from far and wide to eat food. He takes utmost care to arrange food for the birds. Akhi Begum said that hundreds of unknown birds come here every year. At first, the people of the area were surprised to see so many birds. Idris Ali of the nearby Palashbari village said that no one in the area bothers the birds. They eat and leave on their own accord. They love the people and birds of the area.

The house owner FazlulHaque said that the birds are like my children. They chirp in front of my door. About three years ago, I started feeding a few birds, but over time, hundreds of birds started coming. I feed them regularly. I want to feed the birds like this. When I go out for some reason, my wife feeds them.

Upazila Animal Resources Officer AR Mamun said that birds are the lifeblood of nature. In this era of urbanization, the habitat of birds is continuously decreasing, so I applaud the initiative of some bird lovers like FazlulHaque who are feeding the birds.
