At least 3 activists were injured by bullet hit in a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders and activists over control of an area at Baghail in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Sunday night.
The injured are Salim Hossain, son of Zafir Uddin, Ainul aque, son of Afaz Uddin and Nasim Ahmed, son of Abdur Razzaq.
Police and locals said there had been a longstanding dispute between Pabna district BNP convener Habibur Rahman Habib and Ishwardi upazila Sechchasebak Dal member secretary Mehdi Hassan group.
The sources said the two groups clashed over the occupation of a pond in the Baghail area a few days ago. Following the incident at around 8.00pm on Sunday, 30-35 leaders and activists led by Mehdi Hassan went to Habibur Rahman’s supporters Salim’s office and attacked there and shot, leaving three people were shot to injured.
One of the injured was rushed to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex and other two others to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, police said.
Officer-in-charge of Ishwardi police station Shahidur Rahman Sahid confirmed the incident and saying that they intervened to bring the situation under control. However, no formal complaints had been lodged as of Monday afternoon. Additional police have been deployed in the area to avoid further untoward incident. Legal action will be taken if a written complaint is received.’
