1100 families of indigenous, Dalit Communities get food aid from Abolamban

A total of 1100 families of indigenous communities living in Mithapukurupazila in Rangpur district got food aid from Gaibandha based non-government voluntary organization- Abolamban and Rangpur based organization DOPS today.

Concerned sources said, the men of indigenous and dalit communities who lead their families from dailies income had become jobless due to strict lockdown imposed by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

As they had become jobless, they were passing their days and nights with hardship and sorrows for want of edible foods. Their sorrows knew no bounds.

Considering the matter, Abolamban and DOPS took initiative to distribute food items to the families hardest hit by corona to reduce their sufferings.

Accordingly, the organizations distributed food items to 1100 families of the communities at the direct supervision of upazila administration with the financial support of Swiss Embassy and in cooperation with National Human Rights Commission and Human Rights and Justice Programme of UNDP.

On Friday morning around 10 AM, a function on food aiddistribution was held on the ground of Mithapukur Govt. Model High School of the upazila.

Upazila vice chairman Niranjan Chandra Mahanta, convener of AdibashiBangaliSanghotiParishad Adv. Sirajul Islam Babu, executive director(ED) of AbolambanProbirChakrabartee and Ed of DOPS UzzalChakrabartee, Human Rights worker Shahidul Islam and indigenous leader Babul Lal Mardy addressed the function among others.

Later they distributed food items to the families of the communities followring the health guidelines of corona.

Each of the families got a food package containing 12 KGs of rice, 6 KGs of flour, 3 KGs of pulse, a KG of sugar, 2 liters of oil, a KG of salt, a KG of beaten rice, a KG of vermicelli and 6 pieces of soaps free of cost.

A large number of social workers, local elite, invited persons including journalists were present on the occasion.
